INTELLLIGENT MONEY"S CHARGES INCLUDE EVERYTHING

If you have ever tried to work out what you are actually paying in the world of financial services, you will know it can be impossible.

You have platform charges, adviser charges, fund charges, dealing charges, discretionary management charges and other disbursements. (trustee fees, auditor fees, dealing/trading fees and Stamp Duty Reserve Tax). Whilst these are all disclosed to you, they are usually done so in different documentation from each of the different companies involved in the chain.

Typically, financial advisers charge up to 5% initial and 1% a year. investment platforms can be up to 0.5% a year. Funds range wildly from as little as 0.015% up to 1.8% a year and discretionary fund management can add another 0.3% to 1% (plus VAT). Trustee and auditor fees can be around 0.1% a year and dealing/trading fees vary enormously.

In essence, you can be paying as little as 0.3% a year for an unmanaged index tracker on a platform with call centre helplines, up to a staggering 5% initial and 3%+ a year for a fully advised solution. Most people, however, sit somewhere between these two levels.
